All fire alarm systems located in a business must be inspected by a
licensed technician at least once a year (some jurisdictions may require a
quarterly inspection). It is the owner's responsibility to get their fire
alarm system inspected. If the system does not get a yearly inspection,
not only will the owner get a fine from the Fire Marshal but can be shut
down for business until the problem is corrected.
A "yellow tag" on a fire alarm system means that the system does not
comply with the applicable codes. When a system is yellow tagged, the
Fire Marshal and the owner must be notified within 5 days in writing.
The system must be corrected by the date given by the Fire Marshal.
A "red tag" on a fire alarm system means that the system is either
inoperable or there is an impairment or fault on the system. When the
system is inoperable, the Fire Marshal and owner must be informed
immediately. When the system is impaired or has a fault, the Fire
Marshal and the owner must be notified within 3 days in writing. The
system must be corrected by the date given by the Fire Marshal.
FIRE ALARM REGULATIONS
It is very important for the fire alarm system to be properly maintained.
If the system is not properly maintained, then it may malfunction when a
fire arises and will not warn the individuals inside
